Did you know, for example, that the most famous Sambuca in the world was born in Civitavecchia? From the post-war period to the present day, a recipe that has been handed down from generation to generation. A liqueur of indisputable quality, born from a mix of passion and mastery, which gladdens tables all over the world. The original recipe for sambuca probably originates from the Carthusian herbal tradition once known for alcoholic beverages and medicinal preparations. As mentioned, white elderflower extract is one of the ingredients, but not the main one. Sambuca was marketed at the end of the 19th century in Civitavecchia by Luigi Manzi under the name of Sambuca Manzi, still produced today. It was then launched internationally by Angelo Molinari starting from 1945, after the war just ended, with the name of "Sambuca Extra Molinari". The company was managed by Mafalda Molinari. In the 50s and 60s. Soon Molinari spread throughout Rome thanks to the resourcefulness of Angelo and his sons, Marcello and Mafalda, who introduced it to the restaurants on Via Veneto. A drink consumed with coffee beans inside it, c he soon becomes the emblem of an era full of charm, and inspiration for the Dolce Vita of maestro Federico Fellini. There are many VIPs, actors and sportsmen, who alternate as testimonials of the Molinari advertising campaigns. Even Frank Sinatra, a great admirer of Sambuca Molinari, was so enthusiastic about it that he wrote a letter to the Molinari family in which he praised it. In the 1980s Molinari continued to maintain leadership in its market thanks to a product of absolute quality, combined with careful marketing and distribution policies. The company looks to foreign markets, where it is welcomed, and also conquers international palates, becoming in a few years one of the most famous Italian products in the world. Coming to Civitavecchia also means knowing the history of a liqueur that has made people talk about it all over the world!
